Welcome To Write Sox: An FAQ

JUST WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?

You aren't going to believe this, but I've started another blog. I know, it's so out of character for me. I've always been the type of person that creates a blog, and then keeps doing it day in and day out.

BUT WHAT IS WRITE SOX?

Write Sox is going to be a site where I do exactly what the title suggests: write about the White Sox.

WHY?

Good question.  You see, last year, when I became a full-time writer at CBSSports. part of my deal was that I had to give up writing anywhere else. I was a CBS Sports employee, and all my work was to be for CBS Sports.

It was a deal I fully understood, and one that I was absolutely fine with, but then a funny thing happened.

The 2015 White Sox season was basically the first White Sox season in 10 years in which I didn't have an outlet to write about the team whenever I wanted to. It was hard. I didn't like it, even if the product on the field wasn't all that great. That just made me want to write more.  I needed a place to vent about it that wasn't just my Twitter account, because there's only so much I can say on Twitter without getting in trouble.

I needed a safe haven. So I went to my bosses with a simple request: let me start a White Sox blog. I'm not going to use it to break news, I just need a place to vent once in a while. They were cool with it, so here we are.

WHY JUST THE WHITE SOX?

The longer I write about sports, the more I discover about myself, or at least who I am as a sports fan. I enjoy sports. I enjoy them more than just about anything, but there's a definite hierarchy in my heart for them.

The older I get, even though I still care about the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Notre Dame, Illinois, and even the Cubs, I don't really feel true joy or pain about those teams. I've numbed a bit. That's just not the case with the White Sox.

I still get angry watching the White Sox. I still hurt watching the White Sox. It's the same visceral experience I've always had.

When I'm asked what my favorite sport is, I've always answered that baseball and football are about the same for me. I realize that's no longer the case. My favorite sport is White Sox baseball.

SO WHAT'S THE PLAN HERE?

The truth is, there isn't one. I'm going to write about the White Sox when the inspiration strikes, or just when I can. Some days may come and go without a post, some days might have multiple posts.

Some posts could be over 1,500 words, others could just be a tweet or a gif that amused me. I don't know. I'm not trying to change the game here, or create something amazing.

I mean, for fuck's sake, I created this site on Blogger. Not because I'm keeping it old school, but because I'm too lazy to go with anything that would require effort.

Write Sox's goal is to simply exist for me. If people want to read it and share in my thoughts, awesome. If not, that's cool too.

WHAT ABOUT TWITTER?

The site has one. It's @WriteSox. It's the same account that used to be The Chicago Homer, and of course, the one that was originally NotHawk.

WHY NOT CREATE A NEW ONE? YOU CREATED A NEW SITE.

I told you, I'm lazy. Plus, while I don't care if anybody reads this site, I do have a healthy ego, and it'd hurt that ego to see like "245 followers" on the account. I'm sensitive!

But I'll be using that account to tweet most of my White Sox thoughts from now on, especially during games.

IS NOTHAWK EVER COMING BACK?

No. Stop asking.

YOU ASKED THE QUESTION. YOU'RE LITERALLY WRITING THIS TO YOURSELF.

Shut up.

DON'T YOU JUST WISH THEY'D FIRE ROBIN VENTURA?

Yes. One of my favorite players of all time, and one of my least favorite managers of all time. Quite an impressive career, really.

OKAY, WELL, I'M OUT OF QUESTIONS.

Then that concludes this FAQ.
