The White Sox announced on Sunday that Miguel Gonzalez would be starting on Monday night in Toronto, and that John Danks would be getting skipped in the rotation. It came as something of a surprise because, if skipping Danks was going to be the decision, with Erik Johnson already on the roster after he was called up last week following Carlos Rodon's horrible start against the Angels, the easiest thing to do would have been start Johnson on Monday.
Instead Johnson will end up receiving a week's worth of that MLB money without having to do anything, which is a great way to go on vacation to Chicago for a week.
Because of all the moving parts, and some of the answers that Robin Ventura gave when asked about those parts, it's hard to know exactly what it all means right now.
On Friday the White Sox announced that one of their 2016 first-round picks, Zack Burdi, has a UCL tear and is likely going to need Tommy John Surgery.
This sucks for plenty of reasons.
First of all, Burdi -- the No. 10 prospect in the Sox system -- is not only going to miss the rest of this season, but there's a good chance he'll miss 2018 as well. Coming off Tommy John, there won't be any reason for the Sox to try and rush him back for a couple of weeks of minor league ball.
That means the next time we see Burdi on a pitching mound could be spring of 2019.
This is a big blow for Burdi's development, as well as the team's plans for him. Let's not forget that while the team was still deluding itself into believing it was a contender last year there was talk of bringing Burdi up to help out the bullpen last season, just months after being drafted.
The reason for this was because Burdi has big stuff, and a lot of velocity to go with it. He routinely hits trip…
Well, then the Sox blew a 7-1 lead against the Royals in the ninth inning on Saturday, and I couldn't keep it in any longer. I blew my top, but I blew it on Twitter.
I've decided to post the rant here in its entirety because I need to say it, and I need to share it. Also, if it blows up in my face, I need it somewhere that I can be held accountable. Old tweets get lost too easily.
